In Memoriam: Joseph Walsh

The University mourns the loss of Joseph Walsh ’17, a 19-year old from Warminster, Pa. and a former attackman for the men’s lacrosse team. Walsh was also attending the School of Management.

Upon the wishes of Joseph’s family, no details about Joseph’s death have been released.

The men’s lacrosse team learned of Walsh’s death on the evening of Jan. 24, prior to the team’s scrimmage at Maryland. University officials declined to comment on Walsh, and they cited the family’s request for privacy.

Walsh, who attended St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia, Pa., was a First-Team All-Catholic League pick in 2013, playing midfield and attack according to phillylacrosse.com. Walsh was a three-year letterwinner for the St. Joseph’s Hawks.

Both friends and former teammates took to social media to commemorate Joseph’s life and express their sadness and anger over his passing. On Twitter, they used the hashtag #KeepOnSmiling when expressing their thoughts of Walsh.

This weekend, the University will hold a memorial service for Walsh. With the wishes of Walsh’s family, the service will be held on Feb. 2 at 2 p.m. in Rooke Chapel.
