The men’s swimming and diving team concluded its regular season by competing at the Navy Invite in Annapolis, Md. on Feb. 1. The meet was unscored and served as good preparation for the Patriot League Championships. Lehigh, Army, American, and Navy joined the Bison in the competition.

“The Navy Invite this past weekend mostly served as an opportunity for us to get a feel for the pool where we will be having our championships in a few weeks,” Ben Seketa ’15 said. “To most it would seem that a pool is a pool, but understanding the walls and starting blocks and just overall feeling comfortable is very important for a swimmer’s success.”

Mike Nicholson ’14 and Louis Behnen ’17 were victorious in the 100 fly and 500 free, respectively. In both competitions, the Orange and Blue showcased their depth, claiming seven of the top 13 spots in the 500 free and five swimmers reaching the top 16 mark in the 100 fly.

Seketa, Nicholson, Matt Hadley ’14, and Steve Grune ’16 engineered a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay.

Other strong performances included fifth-place finishes from Seketa (200 IM) and Jeff Shanley ’16 (200 fly), along with sixth-place performances by Erik Heinemann ’15, Will Rappaport ’16, Tim Perley ’15, and Shanley.

“The meet helped prepare us for the PL championships because it gave us a chance to race in the competition pool. This was especially important this year because Navy just recently renovated their pool,” Behnen.

The Bison will return to Annapolis on Feb. 19-22 to compete in the Patriot League Championships.

“In terms of Patriots, the team is really looking forward to getting the most out of our season and showing the concrete results of a really strong season of training,” Seketa said.
