Women’s track and field place third in Patriot League Championship

The women’s track and field team finished in third place in the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at Gerhard Fieldhouse from Feb. 21-23. The Bison (99.5 points) beat out Navy (99 points) for third place by half a point, while they lost to runner up Lehigh (130 points) and champion Boston University (210 points).

The Bison scored in a variety of events. Abigail Brundage ’16 finished in third place in the shot put with a heave of 42-03.25. Emily Ando ’14 and Kristin Sundy ’15 finished in third and sixth place in the pole vault, respectively. Alyssa Cardillo ’14 also earned bronze in the long jump (18-01.75).

The Orange and Blue’s strength in middle distance was on full display as well. Hana Casalnova ’14 finished second in the 800-meter run (2:16.80), while Emily Waksmunski ’14 also finished second in the 1000-meter run (2:55.98).

The Bison went on to finish strong in the relay as the distance medley relay team of Casalnova, Laura Papili ’17, Waksmunski, and Sarah Chandler ’17 finished in third place, while the 4×400 meter relay team of Jess Bridle ’16, Allison Sharkey ’17, Jenn Silvestri ’16, and Jennifer Zymet ’14 finished in second place. The 4×800 relay team of Waksmunski, Kylie Pearse ’15, Seline Tan-Torres ’17, and Casalnova also finished in second.

The Orange and Blue will take the weekend off in preparation for their last indoor meet of the season, the ECAC Championships that will take place March 8-9 at Boston University.
