The women’s track and field team traveled to Williamsburg, Va. from April 3-5 to compete in the prestigious Colonial Relays at the College of William and Mary. The Bison came away with a fifth-place finish out of 40 competing teams, tallying a total of 51 points.

The Orange and Blue scored points from the get-go in the throwing events, as Sophia Nnadi ’16 placed fifth in the hammer throw on the opening night, with a throw of 149-06. Nnadi went on to also score in the discus (131-08), taking sixth place just behind teammate Stephanie Easse ’17 who took fifth with a heave of 133-04. Nnadi then scored for the third time in the shot put, finishing sixth (42-09.50), with Abigail Brundage ’16 (42-00.50) also taking eighth place overall.

The Orange and Blue also performed well in the running and relay events with a multitude of scorers in those events. Hana Casalnova ’14 narrowly missed her personal best in the 800-meter race, finishing fourth (2:10.46). Deanna Godby ’16 and Zoe Gaston ’15 finished in sixth and seventh place respectively in the 3000-meter race as Godby finished in a time of 10:05.07 with Gaston right behind her in a time of 10:07.34.

“The nice weather combined with the higher level of competition set up a great racing opportunity for everyone. For me, Friday’s race was the first true competition of the season,” Godby said. “It was nice to have Gaston and Alison Billas ’16 to work with but the large field made the race tough because we all got stuck behind the pack early on and had to spend a lot of energy trying to get into better positions. Regardless, I think we battled well and am excited to see what we can do next week in the 5k at the Bison Outdoor Classic.”

Chrissy Haney ’16 placed fifth (1:02.57) and Jenn Silvestri ’16 took seventh (1:03.17) in the 400-meter hurdles race. The distance medley relay team of Emily Waksmunski ’14, Jennifer Zymet ’14, Sarah Chandler ’17, and Casalnova finished second in 11:48.03. The 4×400-meter team of Zymet, Kim Nagotko ’15, Silvestri, and Elyse Pettaway ’17 finished third (3:47.24). The 4×1500-meter relay team of Godby, Justine Schnell ’15, Elizabeth Sheprow ’17, and Gaston finished in fifth place (19:08.29).

Several members of the squad also traveled to Susquehanna University to compete in the Crusader Classic on April 5. Nora Adams ’16 was the lone event winner, finishing first in the 5000-meter race with a time of 18:25.34.

Next up for the Bison is the Bison Outdoor Classic tomorrow and Sunday at the Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.
