The women’s tennis team headed to the West Branch Tennis Club in Williamsport, Pa. on April 5 to face Patriot League foe Colgate. The Bison claimed their second victory in the Patriot League, defeating Colgate 4-0. This improved their overall record to 5-6 and their Patriot League record to 2-1.

“I really enjoyed our match against Colgate,” Stephanie Pino ’16 said. “We were really pumped up to go out and beat Colgate. We played well together as a team and everyone stepped up and contributed to a great win.”

The Bison came out with a strong start in doubles. Alyssa McAndrew ’15 and Christie Schneider ’15 earned the first win of the day at No. 3 doubles, defeating their opponents 8-3. Elena Vidrascu ’14 and Maria Cioffi ’16 defeated their opponents 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, clinching the doubles point for the Bison. At the time their match was finished, Pino and Michele Urbinati ’17 had a 6-3 lead at No. 2 doubles.

Cioffi earned the next point for the Bison at No. 2 singles, where she won 6-2, 6-1. This was Cioffi’s sixth consecutive win at No. 2 singles. Pino finished her match next at No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-1), and Vidrascu sealed the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles. The remaining two matches did not finish due to time, but Urbinati and Jorie Fox ’17 both had leads against Colgate once the Bison won.

A home match against Lehigh scheduled for April 7 was postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions.

The team will continue play at Army on tomorrow and at Lafayette on Sunday.
