The women’s tennis team made its way to West Point, N.Y. to face Army for their fourth Patriot League match of the season on April 12. The Bison lost 6-1 to the Black Knights but bounced back at Lafayette on April 13, capturing a 6-1 victory over the Leopards.

Against Army, Maria Cioffi ’16 earned the one point for the Bison at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-2), improving her winning streak to seven matches and her season record to 17-7. She also remains undefeated in Patriot League singles play.

Army took an early lead in the match, winning all three doubles matches. Cioffi/Elena Vidrascu ’14 put up a strong fight at No. 1 doubles, eventually losing 8-6. At No. 2 doubles, Lydia Colvin ’15/Michele Urbinati ’17 fell to Army 8-1, and Stephanie Pino ’16/Alyssa McAndrew ’15 lost 8-3 to Army at No. 3 doubles.

With Vidrascu at No. 1 singles, Cioffi at No. 2, Colvin at No. 3, Urbinati at No. 4, Pino at No. 5, and Jorie Fox ’17 at No. 6, the Orange and Blue hung with their opponents but ended up losing all of the matches except for Cioffi’s.

One day later, the Bison travelled to Easton, Pa. to face Lafayette. The Bison came out strong, sweeping all three doubles matches. Vidrascu/Cioffi won 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, Colvin/Pino defeated Lafyette 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, and Christie Schneider ’15/Elizabeth Morgan ’14 clinched an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

The Bison also won five of their six singles matches. Vidrascu won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Cioffi earned her eighth consecutive victory 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, Urbinati won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, Pino had a 3-6, 7-5, 10-2 victory at No. 4, and McAndrew was victorious at No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-4. With the victory, the Bison improved to 3-2 in Patriot League play.

The Bison were scheduled to face Lehigh on April 14, but the Mountain Hawks chose to forfeit because the match would not affect seeding for the Patriot League Tournament, which will take place from April 17-20 on the Bison’s home courts.
