The men’s cross country team started off its regular season strong on Aug. 30 at the Bison Open, with team members taking 10 of the11 top spots in the race. The squad hosted St. Francis (Pa.), Susquehanna University, and Juniata College as part of the annual home competition.

“It was good to shake off the dust, because some of us haven’t raced since May or early June,” Will Bordash ’18 said.

Many members of the Orange and Blue performed strongly, with the team led by Andrew Kuchta ’16 in 14:44his first career victory as a Bison.

Kuchta’s teammates also showed how much depth there is on this team, taking nine of the next 10 spots in the race. Glen Williams ’15 recorded 14:59 to finish third, followed by Louis Tobias ’17 and Bordash who rounded out the top five.

“I was very happy with my race and was able to finish highly without too much effort. The rest of the team and I are eager to move onto the bigger races and have shown we are in excellent shape coming off of preseason camp,” Williams said.

The Bison will continue their season at the Detroit Mercy Invitational, which will take place tomorrow in Northville, Mich.

“In a season this long, the biggest obstacle the team faces is ourselves,” Tobias said. “We all have to continue to trust in our training and keep ourselves healthy. This year’s team plans on winning a Patriot League title, and the Bison Open was our first step toward that goal.”
