Bison alum Mike Muscala earns first career NBA start

Mike Muscala ’13 traded his orange and blue for red and black in his first official NBA start for the Atlanta Hawks on Jan. 13 in Philadelphia against the 76ers.  Muscala is a decorated men’s basketball alum: all-time leading scorer, two-year team captain, Patriot League Player of the year, and attendee of the pre-NBA draft camp in Bradenton, Fla.

He was a second round, 44th overall pick in the NBA draft in June 2013. Orginally drafted by the Dallas Mavericks, his pick was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. Muscala is only the third Bison to ever be drafted by any NBA team.

In the Jan. 13th blowout game, Muscala scored six points, had nine rebounds, and nabbed one steal. He shot three out of 10 from the field in his 26 minutes on the court. Even though his start came out of nowhere (Forward Paul Millsap was on the bench), Muscala has been gathering up decent averages in his playing time. The Roseville, Minn. native has played in 15 games this season, and is averaging 4.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
