Wresting Winning Streak Increases to Seven

The men’s wrestling team (12-3) recorded its seventh straight win at their match against Bloomsburg on Feb. 1. The Bison finished with a 36-9 victory. Paul Petrov ’16, Tyler Smith ’18, and Joe Stolfi ’16 recorded pins to contribute to the eight out of 10 total matches that the Bison won.

Coming out at seven straight wins is the longest winning streak the Bison have held since the 1992-93 season. In addition to a seven-game streak, having 12 overall wins ties the school record with the 2006-07 and 2009-10 teams.

Adding the three pins and the forfeit victory at 184 pounds, the Orange and Blue beat Bloomsburg for the first time since 1995. Petrov and Smith both made second-period falls while Stolfi made his with 25 seconds left in the first period. Putting in his 16th pin of the season, Stolfi has a career total of 48 pins, just two pins shy of tying the program record.

Petrov had his eighth consecutive win this past weekend, and his pin was his fourth of the year. His winning streak is the second-longest active streak on the team with Stolfi in first having 17 consecutive victories.

The Bison made four wins by decision along with four bonus point wins. Tyler Lyster ’15 gave a 4-0 victory at 197 pounds. This was his 10th shutout decision win. Meanwhile, Grim Gonzalez ’17 and Logan Kerin ’17 both made three point decisions.

The closest match came from Robert Schlitt ’16 who came away with a one-point victory.

“This weekend we wrestled a team that we were highly favored against. We knew that it was a dual that we should easily win. As a result, we went out to Bloomsburg with the mentality to dominate and did just that,” Petrov said.

The Bison will square off on the mats against EIWA rival, American University, on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.
