Water polo makes 2-6 mark in California series

The women’s water polo team took its talents to California last week on spring break for an eight-game series against Whittier, Pacific, San Diego State, UC San Diego, Long Beach State, Ponoma-Pitzer, Cal Baptist, and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The team faired decently well overall and finished the trip with a 2-6 mark considering they were up against four nationally-ranked competitors.

March 14 saw the opening of the Aztec Invitational, the middle games of the series against UC San Diego and San Diego State; both opponents are nationally ranked. Unfortunately, the Bison trailed 8-3 by the half, and couldn’t fend off competition in the second half. The final score was 13-6 against UC San Diego and 9-2 against San Diego State.

Against No. 15 ranked Pacific on March 15, the Orange and Blue lost 5-2.

Later that same day, in the final game against Whittier, the Bison went up 11-7 with a quick series of five goals in the final minutes. Eleanor Marrs ’16 had three goals and three assists while Tegan Stanbach ’17 and Colleen Barron ’18 each earned two goals apiece.

The Orange and Blue, now with a record of 8-10, will have a while to recuperate from the week out west. The Bucknell Invitational begins March 28, and the Bison won’t face Gannon until April 11 in a conference meet-up.
