The softball team hosted Colgate this past weekend from March 28-29 in a Patriot League tripleheader at Becker Field and came away winning the lone match on March 28 putting up an 8-6 comeback victory. In the two games on March 29, the Bison fell both times as game one finished in a 7-4 Colgate victory and game two finished in a 5-2 Colgate victory. After the weekend, the Bison had an overall record of 19-12 and a league record of 1-2.

In the Orange and Blue’s first game, eight singles from the Bison were enough to capture the victory. Kristen Zahn ’15 led the way for the Bison with three hits and two RBIs including the game-deciding, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning. Amanda Fazio ’16, Carolyn Wan ’17, Erin Cox ’15, Meghan Kovac ’18, and Christina Martinez ’17 turned in other big performances for the team. Overall, the Orange and Blue took advantage of Colgate’s mistakes as they scored six unearned runs in the game.

In the first game on March 29, Wan turned in a strong defensive effort for the Bison as she came away with six put outs, including multiple hit-saving catches. In the second game of the doubleheader, the score was tied 2-2 going into the fifth before Colgate hit a three-run homer to pull ahead and finish the sweep of the Bison on the second day.

The Bison then traveled to University Park, on April 1 to play another doubleheader against Penn State. The Orange and Blue lost both games to the Nittany Lions, with the first game ending in a close score of 9-8, and the second one ending in a rout 13-1. At the end of the seventh in the first game, the Nittany Lions rallied to score five runs to take the initial victory.

The Bison avoided a shutout in the second game as Cox scored on an RBI groundout for the last out of the game. Up next for softball is a visit to Lehigh for a three-game series with the Mountain Hawks this weekend April 4-5.
