The baseball team grabbed one victory in its series at Lehigh by winning 4-2 (eight innings) in the first game on April 4. The Bison fell in the latter three games 6-2, 3-2 (eight innings), and 7-6. They put up a good effort at Penn State on April 7 but were handed a 4-2 loss. The Bison are now 15-15 (1-7 PL).

In the first game of the Lehigh series, Bryson Hough’s ’15 complete game earned him a tie for third place in career victories for the Orange and Blue with 17. He struck out eight batters in eight innings of action.

The scoring did not start until the top of the sixth, when Danny Rafferty ’17 and Rob Krentzman ’15 each drove in a run to take a 2-0 lead. Lehigh responded in the bottom of the seventh with two runs of its own to extend the game into the eighth. In that inning, Krentzman brought home his second RBI. Greg Wasikowski ’15 returned that favor and drove Krentzman back home for a two-run lead.

After the run support was established, Hough retired three straight Mountain Hawks, including the first two for strikeouts and claimed the win.

Lehigh racked up six unearned runs in the first and second innings to dig the Bison an early hole in the second game. The Orange and Blue answered in the top of the third with two runs, which included an RBI ground out by Joe Ogren ’16. Lehigh kept the Bison off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.

Xavier Hammond ’15 pitched the complete game and struck out six batters.

On the second day, a pair of Lehigh walk-off wins brought the series to a close. Andrew Andreychik ’16 struck out four batters in the first game and allowed only one hit in the first five innings.

The Bison were first on the scoreboard with a 2-0 lead at the top of the third. Lehigh eventually scored a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings to tie the game before a bases-loaded walk brought the game-winning run home in the bottom of the eighth.

The Bison produced five runs in the first inning of the second game, behind a series of walks that led to the RBIs. Mark Powell ’17 brought in two runs while Aaron Fritz ’18 extended his hitting streak to six games on an RBI single. Lehigh responded with two runs in the bottom of the first.

Rafferty extended the lead to 6-2 after an RBI single brought Spencer Stokes ’16 home. The Mountain Hawks trimmed the deficit with two additional runs in the sixth and completed the comeback in the bottom of the ninth after Lehigh loaded the bases and brought the winning runners home.

Mike Castellani ’17 struck out five in his first career start.

Against Penn State, a team the Bison beat last season, Anthony Gingerelli ’15 finished with two hits and an RBI in the game. Both teams scored a run in the second inning and the Bison eventually regained a 2-1 lead, but the Nittany Lions tallied the final three runs of the game. The Bison had the bases loaded at the top of the eighth, but came up empty-handed.

The Bison return home for a four-game series with Army on April 11-12. They also have a rematch at Penn State on April 15.
