The Orange and the Blue won 11 out of their 13 races on April 4 in the Philadelphia area on the Schuylkill River as part of the Skotedis Cup.

In the first race, which was the lightweight eight, the women’s rowing team faced off against Villanova and La Salle’s varsity eight. In the lightweight eight boat, the women were: Colleen Alexander ’17 (cox), Stephanie Larkin ’18 (8), Charlotte Brace ’16 (7), Kendall Balasiano ’16 (6), Leah Murphy ’17 (5), Nicole Finan ’17 (4), Ashley Erich ’18 (3), Erin Clark ’18 (2), and Emily O’Brien ’18 (1). The Bison came in second at 7:13.9, Villanova finished in first with 7:01.4, and La Salle finished in third with 7:37.1.

The Bison raced against Temple University five times, and won all of their races. These races were counted as part of the inaugural Skotedis Cup, which is a competition between men’s and women’s teams from both schools. The race is named after John Skotedis, a former Bison coach who learned to row at Temple.

The boats that raced against Temple were varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, varsity four “B”, and novice eight. Later in the day against Drexel, the Bison raced five times, winning four. The boats in those races were varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, and novice eight. The second novice eight raced against Williams twice, winning both times.

“It’s exciting to see our team progress the way it has been these past few weekends,” Hannah Rosen ’18 said.

On April 11, the Bison will travel to West Windsor, N.J. to compete for the Knecht Cup in a weekend event.
