Despite its losses over the years, the volleyball team’s matches against Navy have been rivalry-driven. The Bison finally gained the upper hand by ending the six-match losing streak with a five-set win at Davis Gym on Sept. 25. The Bison improved to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League.

Outside hitter Jordan Walker ’17 ended the match with a kill off an assist from Karen Campbell ’16 to give the Bison a 15-10 win in the fifth set. Every set was close in score as the teams traded off wins. The Bison secured the first set 25-23, lost in the second 28-26, and won 25-21 in set three. The Navy Midshipmen tied the match in the fourth set with a 25-22 victory, but the Orange and Blue came out victorious with solid plays in the fifth set.

Walker and Blake Buchholz ’19 were two of three Bison players with double-digit kills, tying for a total of 13. Campbell finished with 12 while Hailey Stout ’18 tallied six. Campbell played an aggressive defensive game at the net, registering 10 total blocks, including five solo. As a team, the Bison concluded with 19 blocks.

Meghan Wentzel ’16 had 39 assists and four players recorded double-digit digs. Buchholz and Stout led with 16 each, followed by Katie Price ’16 with 11, and 10 from Walker. Stout also served for three of the team’s five aces.

The Orange and Blue will continue Patriot League play on Oct. 2, when they will face off against Lehigh at home.
