Bybel and Adams compete in ITA All-American Championships

The men’s tennis team’s Nick Bybel ’16 and Bryan Adams ’17 competed in the esteemed ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. from Oct. 3-6. The ITA Championships attract some of the very best collegiate tennis players nationwide, and Adams and Bybel held their own against some of the best in the country. Bybel is a seasoned ITA Championship participant, making this his third appearance at the event.

In his first qualifying singles match, Bybel knocked out his competitor from New Mexico 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Bybel’s next match wasn’t as favorable, suffering defeat by a challenger from Miami 6-3, 6-2. In his first appearance at the ITA Championships, Adams faced off against a Miami opponent in the pre-qualifying round and was overcome in a close match 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. In doubles play, Adams and Bybel suffered a very close defeat to a duo from Florida 7-5, 6-4.

“It’s been a blast having the unique opportunity to be out here playing with the best players in the nation, and I couldn’t be more thankful for Nick helping me get here. I lost two tough three-set matches but I feel that I was able to elevate my level to the point where I felt I most certainly belonged in such a prestigious field,” Adams said.

Head coach Craig Schwartz was also pleased with his players’ performances.

“Overall this has been a real quality trip and we look forward to keeping it rolling,” Schwartz said.

The Bison will face additional high-level competition Oct. 9-11 as they compete in the Farnsworth Invite in Princeton, N.J.
