Volleyball defeats Holy Cross, falls to Army on the road

The Orange and Blue triumphed over Holy Cross, defeating them 25-19, 25-20, 23-25, and 25-19 on Oct. 16. The volleyball team’s momentum quickly ended when the Bison fell to conference rival Army West Point on Oct. 17.

The Bison evened the conference record with a 3-1 victory over Holy Cross. Erika Eastley ’17 was one of four Bison to reach double-digit kills, and she contributed six block assists to lead the team to victory. Karen Campbell ’16 led the team’s momentous efforts in the middle with 16 kills, while Eastley contributed 14. Hailey Stout ’18 and Blake Buchholz ’19 also added double-digit kills with 10 apiece. Stout led the way with 28 digs, while Hana Sawanobori ’18 followed with 19. Buchholz ended with 16 digs, Meghan Wentzel ’16 posted 13, and Jenna Slusar ’18 and Katie Price ’16 had 11 digs each.

At West Point, the Orange and Blue fell in three sets on the road to their Patriot League rival Army West Point. Army is currently ranked second best in the conference with 7-1 in league play. They defeated the Bison 25-14, 25-11, 25-17. Campbell had seven kills and Wentzel led in assists with a total of 13. Outside hitters Buchholz and Stout each added 11 digs.

The Bison dropped to 10-9 overall, 4-5 in league play and now place fifth in the Patriot League standings. There are seven matches remaining on the schedule, including a highly anticipated match against Lehigh on Oct. 31.
