The Bison wrestling team dominated Bloomsburg in its match on Jan. 31, coming out on top with a 44-9 win. Tyler Greene ’17, Robert Schlitt ’16, and Joe Stolfi ’16 all recorded pins, pushing Bison morale over the edge on Senior Day. The victory improved the Orange and Blue to an impressive 7-5 record.

Rustin Barrick ’16 recorded a decision, taking his tenth consecutive victory to improve to a 20-6 individual tally this season, while Tom Sleigh ’18 logged a technical fall. The Bloomsburg men were undermanned, adding three forfeits to the Orange and Blue’s victory. Paul Petrov ’16, Grim Gonzalez ’17 and Tyler Smith ’18 were all awarded forfeits.

The six seniors—Chuck Boddy ’16, Brenan McAllister ’16, Barrick, Petrov, Schlitt and Stolfi—were recognized prior to the match in celebration of their final season. The seniors came out strong with Barrick, Schlitt, and Stolfi recording wins in the match.

Stolfi topped the match as he acquired his 59th career pin, improving to a 12-1 personal record for the season. Following the strong results of their final home match, Stolfi is already thinking about the post-season.

“As much as I love competing during the regular season, I am looking forward to the excitement of competing in the postseason,” Stolfi said. “But being my last season I’m enjoying every day of the process and wrestling every match like it is my last. It was nice to be recognized with all the seniors as we’ve been a close class and have been through a lot together. Although I was excited for the match, it hit me that it would be my last time competing at home. I’m happy I was able to have a strong finish.”

The energy at the match amplified as Senior Day coincided with the University’s Wrestling Veteran Appreciation Day, where the Bison honored Navy veteran Ernie Gromlich for his service. The Bison will continue their season as they take on Sacred Heart on Feb. 7, the first of six stops on their road tour for the month.
