Men’s lacrosse opens season with 13-5 victory over Delaware

Will Sands ’18 and Connor O’Hara ’18 contributed most of the Orange and Blue’s goals in their season-opener against Delaware, tallying three goals apiece. The men’s lacrosse team earned an impressive 13-5 victory on Feb. 6. The Bison opened their 49th season, returning 29 lettermen from last year’s team that went 9-6 overall and 5-3 in the conference.

The Bison were at a 4-1 advantage after the first period. Sean Doyle ’16 contributed two more goals to the score, bringing the Bison to a 7-2 lead at halftime. Sands scored in the opening few minutes of the second half and then again later on to bring his tally to three goals and improve the Bison to a 10-2 lead. Sands also posted two assists. After the third period, the Orange and Blue led 11-4. Jarett Witzal ’19 won 15 of 21 face-offs, allowing the team to keep momentum throughout the game.

Doyle and Thomas Flibotte ’16 posted two goals each for the Orange and Blue, while Tommy O’Connor ’17, Kyle Shanahan ’16, and Sean O’Brien ’18 each contributed one. Christian Klipstein ’19 made his debut in goal for the Bison and recorded a notable 10 saves.

Klipstein’s collegiate debut proved to be impressive. He was named the Corvias Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for his stellar performance against Delaware.

The Bison’s all-star performance gave them a 29-25 edge in ground balls as they out-shot Delaware 34-30. Led by Head Coach Frank Fedorjaka, the men are starting off their season with a promising 1-0 record. The Orange and Blue will compete on the road on Feb. 14, where they challenge Bryant.
