Gerhard Fieldhouse swarmed with eager athletes on Feb. 12 as the Bison hosted the Bucknell Tune-Up. This was the last regular meet of the indoor season. The team is ready for the upcoming Patriot League Championship on Feb. 19-21 at Boston University. A small group of athletes will return to Boston University in March to compete in the IC4A Indoor Championships.

The season was filled with ups and downs, but when it is all said and done this weekend at PLCs, I am proud to say that I was a member of this great team,” Olu Shoyoye ’16 said.

The Orange and Blue had a successful day overall, winning a total of 10 events. Some men used the competition for training while others attempted to prove their spot on the Leagues roster. Notable performances include Nicholas Lombardo ’18, who won the high jump with a leap of 6-8 ¾. Elijah Kay ’17 came in second place, jumping 6-6 ¾.

Eight of the 10 titles won were in running events. Grant Reynolds ’16 ran an IC4A-qualifying time of 8.21 in the 60-meter hurdles. John Kirna ’16 finished first in the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:24.55. Jacob Ashkettle ’17 beat out 10 other runners in the 400-meter, finishing first with a time of 50.36. Scott Gulizio ’19 claimed first in the 800-meter, while David Frering ’18 took first in the 1,000-meter. Griffin Robertson ’16 took first in the 200-meter dash, while Andrew Kuchta ’16 earned first place in the 3,000-meter run.

Overall, it was a triumphant day for the men’s sprint and distance squads.

“Our last meet was a very successful one. The team is coming together well heading into the Championship. We’re setting up to have the best meet thus far, and the guys are excited to compete with the best the Patriot League has to offer,” Robertson said.

The team will head to Boston University next for the Patriot League Championships, taking place Feb. 19-21.
