Seventh Street Café is no longer the only campus location where students can enjoy a variety of smoothies. On March 30, the Bison Café unveiled a smoothie bar at its Smokehouse station. The new station will be open Mondays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on a trial basis for the rest of the semester.

The smoothie bar features four 16-ounce, pre-designed smoothie and juice options, as well as a build-your-own-smoothie option, in which each customer chooses a liquid base (such as whole milk or skim milk), up to three fruits and vegetables, a spice, and add-ins.

According to Dining Committee member Tim Kim ’16, many students have vocalized their interests about the creation of a smoothie bar.

“It’s a great addition to Bucknell Dining’s impressive services and shows their dedication to accommodating student demands. I hope it stays,” Kim said.

Each smoothie has a distinct nutritional goal. For example, Practice What You Peach,a smoothie blend of peaches, carrots, ginger, orange juice, and flaxseeds, targets immunity, while Muscle Monkeytargets recovery, Hydro-melon 2.0targets hydration, and Buckys Beets-n-Berries” contains antioxidants.

Sports nutrition specialist Tanya Williams helped Dining Services create the smoothie bar, by designing the smoothie options and selecting the featured juices.

“A smoothie bar is something that has been talked about for a long time, but we didn’t know where we wanted to place it,” Resident District Manager of Dining Services Ty Paup said.

The smoothies are all food, no fillerand there are no added sugars or artificial flavoring,” Director of Retail Operations for Dining Services Jay Breeding said.
