Bendzinski, Scott, Bridle take Outdoor Classic by storm

The Orange and Blue broke several records on April 16-17 at the Bison Outdoor Classic at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. To start off their success, Christine Bendzinski ’18 was the runner-up out of 56 runners in the 1,500-meter run, finishing with a time of 4:19.99 and beating the previous school record of 4:25.55. Kate Scott ’17 completed the 5,000-meter run in second place with the time of 16:38.21. This time shatters the previous record of 16:51.95. Jess Bridle ’16 finished first out of 71 runners in the 200-meter dash with the time of 24.55, breaking another program record. Bridle holds the school record in this event for both indoor and outdoor.

Sarah Chandler ’17 got ninth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:28.68, which ranks fifth in the Bison record book. In the unseeded 5,000-meter run, the Orange and Blue took three of the top five places. Deanna Godby ’16 was the runner-up, and Alison Billas ’16 and Brennan Sharkey ’18 finished in third and fourth, respectively. 

In the field, Dayna Simone ’16 worked hard to earn fourth in the javelin with a throw of 137-2 and Kasey Getkin ’19 placed sixth with the length of 135-11. Stephanie Easse ’17 earned sixth in the discus with a score of 144-09, and Sophia Nnadi ’16 was eighth in the same event.

Nnadi placed second in the hammer, leading the Patriot League with her score of 171-10. She also placed fifth in the shot put. Abigail Brundage ’16 finished fourth in the shot put.

The quad of sprinters, consisting of Kafilat Oladiran ’18, Kimberley Lapszynski ’17, Carly Reiner ’17 and Bridle, finished the 4×100-meter relay in fourth with the time of 47.37. This is the third-best time ever for the Bison. In the 4×400-meter relay, Allison Sharkey ’17, Jen Silvestri ’16, Chrissy Haney ’16, and Bridle took third with the time of 3:56.91.

Lapszynski leapt to a score of 18-10 in the long jump and placed sixth. Silvestri placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with the time of 1:00.87 and finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles.

The Orange and Blue will be back competing at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium for the Bucknell Team Challenge on April 23.
