The Bison traveled to Hamilton, N.Y. to take on Colgate in a three-game series April 23-24. In the first game, the Bison quickly went down 0-3 in the first three innings. Meghan Kovac ’18 kept the Orange and Blue alive as she hit a grand slam in the top of the fifth inning to give the Bison a 4-3 lead. Dana Nielsen ’16 recorded her 10th win of the season as she kept the Raiders scoreless in the final three innings.

The Bison carried their energy from the first game win to shut out Colgate 6-0 in game two. Amanda Fazio ’16 was on the mound for all seven innings and struck out 10 batters. Fazio has struck out a total of 130 batters and has only walked 19 this season. She leads the Patriot League with the lowest earned run average, 1.72. Fazio got a base hit, which Kovac drove home with a single, one of her four RBIs on the day. Mariah Midyette ’16, Christina Martinez ’17, and Chaylen Andolino ’17 all contributed to the victory with RBI singles.

After two wins on April 23, the Bison never turned back and defeated the Raiders 9-0 on April 24 to sweep the series. Andolino led the Bison as she converted on all four of her at-bats, one of which was a two-run home run. Midyette also drove in two runs for the Bison, while Lauren Hadley ’19, Paulina Gutkin ’18, Carolyn Wan ’17, Kovac, and Anna Gimmestad ’19 also recorded one run apiece. Fazio continued her success on the mound as she shut out the Raiders for the second game in a row.

“This weekend was incredible for our team. Every single player contributed to these wins and it was really fun to be a part of. I’m really proud of what we are doing right now. These games were a great way to get our team going again, especially going into Senior Weekend against Lehigh next week,” Kovac said.

The Bison are now 26-19 on the season and 10-5 in the Patriot League. The Orange and Blue will host Lehigh April 30-May 1 for the final games of their regular season, during which they hope to secure a spot in the post-season Patriot League tournament.
