Brittany Willwerth ’20 tallied two goals against Rutgers and York on Aug. 26 and Aug. 28, respectively, to lead her team to two shutouts to open the field hockey season.

About 10 minutes into the Rutgers competition, Willwerth received an assist from Lexi Quick ’19 to score for the Bison. Following Willwerth’s first-half goal, Marisa Morakis ’20 followed up an assist from Amy Mucelli ’17 to record a goal in the second half to help the Bison earn their season-opening victory. Goalkeeper Emily Finn ’18 tallied her first career shutout.

In an exhibition game against York, Willwerth tallied a goal only nine minutes into the game, following an assist from Emily Goodloe ’17. The Orange and Blue dominated the field, out-shooting York 15-5 and dominating in penalty corners 10-2. Goalkeepers Finn and Olivia Harris ’20 shared time to save multiple goals and contribute to the shutout.

With an extensive history as a strong postseason squad, the Bison are hopeful of having a successful season. Coming off a semifinal finish from the conference tournament last year, the Bison have been preparing all preseason to start off the season strong. The Bison kick off the 2016-2017 season while welcoming new assistant coach, Sam Carlino.

The Bison will hit the road in the coming weeks to continue their season. The field hockey team will take on Saint Joseph’s on Sept. 2 before competing against Princeton on Sept. 4.
