Athlete of the Week: Dan Wright ’18, men’s tennis

With a first place finish in both the singles and doubles tournaments Sept. 9-11, tennis player Dan Wright ’18 had an extremely impressive showing for the Bison. A third year veteran for the Orange and Blue, Wright is finding plenty of success on the court.

“It feels great to start this year so strong because I am always trying to improve each and every day and I feel like this past weekend showed that,” Wright said.

This success is nothing new for Wright. He was one of the top two finishers in the top flight of the Bucknell Quad Tournament last year, and has stayed a dominant force in the field. Additionally, Wright is ranked 20th in the men’s program for singles wins, and has almost two full years left ahead of him.

“My favorite part of my college career so far has been seeing the development and progress of my game and that of my teammates. It is an awesome thing being able to work and develop with people you are so close to,” Wright said.

Wright’s close relationships with his teammates helps his performance in doubles play as well, as he and Timber Erskine ’18 placed first in the top flight of the doubles tournament this past weekend.

Despite all of his success, Wright does admit there have been challenges along the way.

“The physical aspect has challenged me since I arrived here at Bucknell. Having this constant challenge has been and continues to be a good motivation for me to surpass my own expectations,” Wright said.

All of the hard work put in by Wright and the team does not go unrewarded, and will no doubt benefit the Bison as they move forward with their season.

Wright is very team-minded when looking forward to the rest of the season for the Orange and Blue.

“My goal is to get some quality wins over the fall and carry that form into the spring. With regards to the team, the goal is for all of us to keep moving forward and to exceed our own expectations,” Wright said.

He and the rest of the men’s team have a difficult schedule, but if their performance at their past tournament is any indication, they will experience success as the year moves forward.
