The women’s volleyball team had a nerve-wracking weekend with an unfortunate 1-3 loss to Lehigh and a shutout over Lafayette on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, respectively. Bridgette Holland ’20 contributed to the Bison’s 1-1 weekend, performing well in both games.

The Bison fell to Lehigh with the scores of 25-21, 25-21, 22-25, and 25-21. Holland recorded her sixth double-digit kill with 15 kills and a .467 hitting percentage against Lehigh. Additionally, Sophie Bullard ’20 recorded a double-double, posting 12 kills and 14 digs. Blake Buchholz ’19 also recorded a double-double, finishing with 10 kills and 12 digs. Mimi Richards ’20, leader of the Patriot League in blocking, also had an impressive game with seven total blocks.

The Orange and Blue did not allow the loss to affect their mentality going into their Oct. 1 game. They shut out Lafayette 3-0 with scores of 25-16, 25-23, and 25-16 to record a .255 hitting percentage. Lafayette had a solid opportunity to tie the match when they took a 23-22 lead in the second set, but Buchholz completed back-to-back kills, and the Bison scored the final three points.

Buchholz posted 12 kills and nine digs against the Leopards. Holland and Richards were once again very effective players as they finished the match with a combined 15 kills on 29 attacks. Holland had eight kills and no errors, while Richards had seven kills with only one error and added three block assists.

“[The Bison] have a lot of talent on the team this year and so much potential. It will be an exciting season and hopefully another record-breaking one, too,” Richards said.

Bullard had a strong game as she lead the Orange and Blue with 11 digs and two aces. Brooke Stark ’20 and Luz Nagle ’18 also helped pull the Bison to victory as Stark tallied 10 digs and Nagle recorded 20 assists.

The Bison improved to 3-13 overall and 1-3 in the Patriot League. The Orange and Blue will next face Loyola on Oct. 8 as they continue their season.
