Field hockey clinches spot in Patriot League Tournament

The field hockey team secured a spot in the Patriot League Tournament with an exciting 3-0 win over Colgate on Oct. 29. Goals were scored by Anna Wills ’17, M.C. Evans ’19, and Nicole Rupnik ’19. This win improved their record to 9-8 overall and 3-3 in the Patriot League.

This game was the second “must-win” for the Bison in order to continue their season. The Orange and Blue had just previously beaten Lafayette on Oct. 22, but in order to secure a spot in the tournament, they had to beat Colgate. With this in mind, the Bison came out strong. Wills scored the first goal of the game off a pass from Amy Mucelli ’17 just 4:49 minutes into the game. Rupnik then put one past the goalie for the second goal of the game, and her eighth goal of the season. Evans solidified the win with the third goal of the game with just 6:59 minutes remaining. Goalie Emily Finn ’18 recorded her sixth shutout for the season.

The Orange and Blue will be the fourth seed for the tournament and will face off against No.1  seed Boston University at their field on Nov. 4. The game will prove to be an intense rematch, as the Bison lost to the Terriers in double overtime in last year’s tournament.
