Amidst the chaos of the 2016 presidential election results, five states voted on the legalization of the recreational use of marijuana: Nevada, California, Massachusetts, Arizona, and Maine. In California, Nevada, and Massachusetts the measure was approved. Local precincts in Maine have reported victory for recreational marijuana use pending a final vote count. but in Arizona, the measure for approval of recreational marijuana failed.

Republicans will keep control of Congress, maintaining majorities in both the House and Senate. This will be only the second time since the 71st Congress in 1929-30 that the GOP has controlled both chambers and the executive. Fifty-one Republicans now hold seats in the Senate and 239 won seats in the House, staving off many, if not most, Democratic challengers.

International

French investigators have identified the alleged mastermind behind the terror attacks in Paris and Brussels in November 2015 and March 2016, respectively. The French government identified Oussama Atar as the prime suspect. Atar is a cousin of  Ibrahim and Khalid El Bakraoui, the brothers who are responsible for the attacks on the Brussels Airport and metro attacks.

After Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election, the value of the peso took a massive hit. According to Mexico’s financial officials, the country’s currency dropped over 13 percent, reaching record lows.
