The Bison played a tough game both offensively and defensively on Nov. 12 against Patriot League contender Georgetown, culminating in a 21-7 win in favor of the Orange and Blue. The Bison moved to 3-2 in the Patriot League and improved to 4-6 overall.

Both the Orange and Blue and Georgetown are considered to have two of the toughest defenses within the Patriot League this season. The game remained scoreless until the 29th minute when Joey DeFloria ’18 was able to make a 14-yard rushing touchdown with less than a minute left of play in the half. DeFloria went on to score again in the second half along with teammate Chad Freshnock ’20.

Georgetown was only able to respond with one touchdown in the third quarter. After advancing 55 yards on the Bison in just three plays, Georgetown was able to complete a 23-yard touchdown pass to respond to the Bison’s lead.

The Orange and Blue kept Georgetown out of scoring range for the majority of the game. Bryan Marine ’19 recorded his second interception of the season to begin the play leading into Freshnock’s rushing touchdown. DeFloria’s 28-yard touchdown run in the last few minutes of the game sealed the Orange and Blue’s 21-7 victory.

“We were able to win on third down and create turnovers, which gave our offense more opportunities to score,” Marine said.

Freshnock has tallied more than 500 rushing yards on the season. DeFloria also made a personal record, improving to 1,070 rushing yards on the season. Will Carter ’17 posted seven receptions for 62 yards throughout the game to contribute to the Bison’s success. John Chiarolanzio ’20 started at quarterback and completed nine of 18 passes to tally 68 yards. R.J. Nitti ’17 provided relief for Chiarolanzio and went four for seven for 41 yards, connecting mostly with Carter.

The team will prepare for its last regular season game against conference opponent Fordham on Nov. 19.
