The Bison celebrated their Senior Day at Kinney Natatorium on Jan. 21 against Lehigh in one of their last home meets of the season. Though the Bison women fell to Lehigh 133.5-166.5, they still had a number of notable first place finishers. The men defeated Lehigh 156-123 with several first place finishes, including eight individual events and one relay.

The Orange and Blue started the meet off strong, beating Lehigh’s competitor in the 200-yard medley relay 1:47.52 to 1:47.65. Julie Byrne ’19 and Emma Hadley ’20 swept the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, while Leah Bloodgood ’18 was the third individual top finisher of the day, clocking in at 2:24.05 in the 200-yard breaststroke.

Julianna Foss ’18 also had a standout day, finishing second in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly. Abby Merriman ’20 followed suit, taking second in the 1000-yard and 500-yard freestyle.

The Bison men’s team started off the meet full force with a win in the 200-yard medley relay consisting of Chris Devlin ’18, Chadd Cummings ’19, James Elmendorf ’19, and Charlie McFarland ’19. Tom Gannon ’19 and Cummings finished first and second, respectively, in the 200-yard breaststroke, while Louis Behnen ’17 swept the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyles, leading the Bison to a 1-2-3 finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Other event winners include Devlin, who finished first in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke, and Peter Sigward ’20 who took first on both diving events.

“We kept a positive energy throughout the meet, especially for those closer races on both the men’s and women’s sides. Unfortunately we came out on bottom, but we are all pumped and ready to see and race them again here in a month when it really matters,” Foss said.

The Bison will next compete in Kinney Natatorium on Jan. 27 at 6 p.m. against West Virginia.
