A struggling offense led the Bison softball team to lose all three games in its series against Army on April 22-23. The team’s record moves to 23-15 overall and 6-6 in the Patriot League. They remain in the fourth and final playoff position in the Patriot League with six conference games left for the season.

During the first game of the series, the Bison had only one hit and one other baserunner. Carolyn Wan ’17 had a single up the middle in the fourth inning in addition to a hit-by-pitch in the sixth inning. Though the score was knotted at 0-0 for five innings, Army broke through in the bottom of the sixth with two runs. The final game score was 0-2.

The Orange and Blue lost the second contest on April 22 by a final score of 1-3. Lauren Lichtenwalner ’20 was solid in relief on the mound, allowing just one run, giving up no walks, and striking out four batters. The Bison finished with six hits, including two singles from Christina Martinez ’17 and one single each from Anna Gimmestad ’19, Paulina Gutkin ’18, Meghan Kovac ’18, and Ryanne Rokos ’19. Rokos scored the Bison’s only run on a RBI single from Gimmestad in the third inning.

In the final game of the series, Kovac had the only two hits for the Bison. Though Army’s pitchers gave up five walks, including two taken by Julienne Egofske ’20, the Orange and Blue couldn’t capitalize with runners on base. The Black Knights finished the game with 10 hits and a defeated the Bison by a final score of 0-6.

The Bison will travel to Holy Cross on April 29-30 for a crucial series in league play. The results of these three games will determine who gets the fourth seed in the upcoming Patriot League Conference Tournament.
