The women’s field hockey team hosted Lehigh on Friday, Sept. 29 and Quinnipiac on Sunday, Sept. 30, in which the team defeated Lehigh 3-1 and continued their momentum with a 4-2 win over Quinnipiac.

The Bison had a strong first half against Lehigh, with three goals scored by Chloe Poltonavage ’20, Lexi Quick ’19, and M.C. Evans ’19.

“From the moment all 22 of us walked into the locker room on Friday night, the positivity each of us brought was contagious. Going into our second league game was looked at as an opportunity to grow and prove something to ourselves after a tough loss to American,” Poltonavage said.

Shortly after Poltonavage’s goal, Lehigh scored to tie the game. However, the Bison defense did not back down, holding Lehigh to one shot for the duration of the game.

In the second half, the Orange and Blue only had three shots and three penalty corners. They ended the night going 11-1 in edge shots and 8-3 in corners.

“Our work ethic that began in the backfield with two of our senior leaders, Emily Finn and Steph Dressler, moved all the way through the midfield and up to our forwards is what in my opinion gave us an advantage over Lehigh,” Poltonavage said.

After their win against Lehigh, the Bison wrapped up their weekend on a positive note with a 4-2 win over Quinnipiac.

Quinnipiac opened the game by scoring a goal in the first five minutes. However, the Bison responded with four consecutive goals from Brittany Willwerth ’20, Stephanie Dressler ’18, Marisa Morakis ’20 and Claire Lesher ’19.

The Bison entered the second half with a 3-1 lead. The offense slowed down until Lesher scored her first goal of the season. Lehigh scored their second goal with 3:30 left in the game, which concluded with a score of 4-2. Emily Finn ’18 had three saves for the Bison.

The Orange and Blue are now 4-2 at Graham Field this season. They will host Colgate on October 7 at 11 a.m.
