Men’s water polo secures second straight MAWPC East Region regular season title

The Bison men’s water polo team beat Fordham 8-6 on Nov. 5 to conclude the MAWPC East Region regular season with an undefeated 10-0 record in the league. With the victory, the team claimed their second consecutive regular season championship.

The teams entered the second half tied 3-3, and the Rams notched a goal to go ahead 4-3. Rade Joksimovic ’20 and Jared Stanley ’21 both scored within one minute to put the Orange and Blue back in the lead. Jeff Hagen ’18 converted a penalty for the go-ahead goal, and the Bison would add one more goal to secure the two-goal cushion and the victory.

The defense dug in for the last five minutes, holding Fordham to just one shot on net. Joksimovic and Tommy Stupp ’18 posted six steals each.

Joksimovic led the offense with five goals and goalie Charlie Niehaus ’18 finished with nine saves. Niehaus moved into third place in program history with 822 career saves. The Orange and Blue, who have clinched the top seed in the tournament, will kick off the MAWPC tournament on Nov. 17 in Annapolis, MD against Mercyhurst.
