The Bison women’s soccer team took the field Oct. 13 in the team’s sixth Patriot League game of the season against the Colgate Raiders. In a game that honored the team’s seven seniors, Camille Andrews ’19, Carly Baggott ’19, Riley Coopersmith ’19, Maddie Dano ’19, Casey Gray ’19, Melissa MacPherson ’19, and Shelby Roberts ’19, the Bison were defeated 2-0 in a hard fought battle.

Coming off a four-game winning streak in Patriot League play, the Bison were filled with momentum and looked to build on their prior success. Despite the Bison having many early shots on goal, the Raiders found the back of the net first in the 22nd minute.

In the second half, Gabby Bair ’20 hit a shot off the crossbar while Bailey Hurst ’20 sent a rocket towards net, both of which were saved by the Raiders goalie. Holly Burns ’22 led the team with three shots on goal for the day.

With 35 minutes remaining, the Raiders scored another goal to make a Bison comeback even more improbable. While the Bison led in corner kicks, 4-1, their eight shots on goal could not match the Raiders’ 24 shots.

“Colgate was dynamic and came at us with a lot of passion and grit,” co-captain Ali Russo ’20 said. “Even though we didn’t get the result we wanted, we still have three league games left which are huge for the season, and can change everything.”

On Wednesday, Oct. 17, the Bison defeated Lehigh, 1-0, in a road contest. The Orange and Blue are now 5-2 in the Patriot League with a 7-8-1 overall record.

The Bison will be back in action when they travel to play Boston University on Oct. 20.
