The Bison men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams impressed at the Bison Invite held in Kinney Natatorium on Feb. 2. The women’s team recorded 28 top-three finishes, 12 of which were winning performances, while the men’s team earned 14 top finishes.

For women’s diving, Paige Schoelkopf ’20 and Alaina Schumann ’21 posted strong performances in the 3-meter dive, while Jessica Hurlburt ’22 earned first place in the 1-meter dive. Schoelkopf earned a score of 273.25, the second-best in school history. Not far behind, Schumann tallied a score of 266.35. Both divers improved from their ninth and 10th places in program records, respectively. Hurlburt finished with a score of 263.30 in the 1-meter dive, ranking her fourth in the program history.

On the men’s diving side, Will Cadwallader ’22 notched the fourth best score in school history in the 1-meter dive, and Garrett Sommer ’21 took the title for the 3-meter dive.

As for the women’s swimming events, Emily Gorham ’21, Maggie Wyngowski ’21, and Kelly Cattano ’21 combined efforts to take the 500 freestyle by storm, finishing first, second, and third, respectively. Maddie Hartigan ’22 also displayed an excellent performance in the pool, taking titles in both the 50 freestyle and the 200 butterfly.

On the men’s side, Liam Pitt ’22 claimed the individual title in two events: the 200 freestyle and the 200 butterfly. Pitt also led the 200 freestyle relay team that finished second-place with an individual time of 20.79, the 10th best score in school history.

“This past weekend was an opportunity to swim events that I usually do not swim in a regular dual meet, so I was very happy with my finishes against league competitors,” Pitt said. “The team is looking to carry our momentum from this weekend into the Patriot League Championships and swim fast.”

Matt McGoey ’20 also recorded a solid day with a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly, a second-place finish in 50 freestyle, and a third-place in the 100 breaststroke. McGoey was also a member of the third-place 200 medley relay team, joining Nick Haddad ’22, Sam Sweeney ’22, and Jack Rose ’22.

The Bison Invite was the final meet for the Orange and Blue prior to hosting the Patriot League Championship on Feb. 20-23 in Kinney Natatorium.
