In the Bucknell Invitational, their first home tournament of the season, the Bison women’s water polo team went 3-1 on Feb. 9-10. The Bison faced Salem, Siena, No. 18 Wagner, and La Salle, improving the team’s record to 6-2 on the season.

During the first day of competition, the Bison had a 14-4 victory over Salem, scoring early and often. Emily Konishi ’19 scored the first goal of the game, assisted by Gigi Rojahn ’20. Following this first goal, the team continued building momentum, with five different players scoring goals.

After earning CWPA Offensive Player of the Week Honors last week, Ally Furano ’21 posted another strong performance, scoring six goals and contributing three assists against Salem.

In their second game of the day, the Orange and Blue cruised to another victory, overcoming Siena 11-3. Kali Hyham ’21 dominated in the first period, scoring three unanswered goals to give the Bison a 3-0 lead after the first period. Konishi provided a solid defensive effort, collecting six steals.

During day two of the tournament, the Bison fell in their first game against No. 18 Wagner by a final score of 12-3. Struggling to come back from an 8-2 deficit after the first half, the Bison failed to overcome a strong offensive performance by the Seahawks. Despite the loss, Georgia Lewis ’22 posted 10 saves in goal in a promising showing.

Looking to finish the tournament strong, the Bison tallied goals and assists from 10 different players in a 16-2 win against La Salle. Once again, Furano led the team with four goals and two assists, while Konishi and Rojahn added three and two goals, respectively. Hayley Pogue ’20 claimed the start in goal and earned four saves for the Bison.

The women’s water polo team will be back in action when they compete against Mercyhurst, McKendree, VMI, and Gannon in the Mercyhurst Invite held from Feb. 16-17.
