The Bison women’s lacrosse team traveled to Annapolis, Md. on March 23 to face No. 14 Navy at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The Midshipmen dominated with a 17-4 victory over the Bison in their second Patriot League game of the season. During a mid-week matchup, the Bison bounced back in a thrilling OT win over Lafayette, 16-15. The Orange and Blue now stand at 2-1 in Patriot League play and 4-7 overall.

Starting the game with a 5-0 run, Navy continued pacing the contest with a 10-0 lead up until the 11:25 mark in the second half. The Bison would go on to score four goals, coming from Tegan Warren ’20, Sarah Monteleone ’22, Faith Reilly ’22, and Morgan Steinhacker ’20. Reilly’s goal was the first of her collegiate career.

Goalie Jamie DeWitt ’19 made 15 saves in the game, matching her season-high from the team’s previous game against UMBC. Jessie Britton ’20 also collect a team-best three ground balls.

“Navy’s a very fast, strong, disciplined team, but we can’t dwell on the outcome of the game with two very winnable league games coming up this week,” Tace Sutherland ’20 said. “We have to keep grinding and hopefully we’ll get a chance to see Navy again in the playoffs.”

Although the Bison fought hard throughout the game, Navy held advantages in shots (47-17), shots on goal (32-8), draw controls (19-1), and ground balls (17-14). It was a tough road matchup for the Bison against the back-to-back Patriot League Tournament title-holders.

On March 27 during the game against Lafayette, Warren, Steinhacker, and Kali Peeples ’21 collected hat-tricks on the way to a 16-15 win over the Leopards. With both teams battling into overtime, Lillie Hunt ’20 bounded around the goal to score the game-winner in dramatic fashion with 25.7 seconds left in the first overtime period.

The team will next travel to Colgate for another Patriot League matchup on March 30 at 1 p.m.
