The Bison women’s lacrosse team traveled to Colgate University on March 30 to take on the Raiders in a Patriot League matchup. The Bison fought hard to stay in the game after trailing by five goals but ultimately fell short 12-11. The Orange and Blue move to a 4-8 record overall and a 2-2 record in Patriot League play.

At the start of the game, the Orange and Blue put the first three goals on the board. The Bison held a 4-1 lead over the Raiders at the 21:25 mark of the first half. Leading up to halftime, Colgate quickly responded with six unanswered goals to secure the 7-4 lead over the Bison heading into the second half.

In the second half of the matchup, the Raiders tallied three more goals right away, followed by a goal for the Bison to make the score 10-5. With 20 minutes remaining in regulation, the Bison buckled in for a comeback. In just over four minutes, the Orange and Blue scored four goals to make it a one-goal game.

The remainder of the game proved to be a battle when, with 12:17 left, the Raiders put two more away in under a minute stretch. The score stood at 12-9, but the Bison were not finished. The Orange and Blue went on to score two more unanswered goals, one at the 11:48 mark and the other with 2:01 remaining. The tally at 2:01 was scored by Kali Peeples ’21, her second of the day. With just 19 seconds left on the clock, the Raiders goalie turned over the ball to give the Bison a chance at forcing overtime, but the ensuing shot hit the post as time ran out.

Although they fell one goal short, the Bison outshot the Raiders 35-29 and won control on 14 of 24 draws. When it came to ground balls, the Raiders collected 31 while the Bison secured 22.

Nine different Bison players scored the 11 goals throughout the game. Peeples and Morgan Steinhacker ’20 each had two. On the Raiders side, two players combined for seven of their 12 goals.

The Bison head to Holy Cross for another Patriot League game on April 6 at 2:05 p.m.
