In its last two regular season games, the Bison women’s tennis team defeated the Loyola Greyhounds 5-2 on April 13, but unfortunately fell short against Lehigh with a 4-3 loss on April 16.

The women’s tennis team now holds an overall record of 13-6 (3-2 in the Patriot League) as they prepare for the upcoming Patriot League Tournament.

In the match against Loyola, the Orange and Blue had singles wins from Daniela Bellini ’22, Cayla Koch ’21, Paige Leavy ’20, and Jill Auteri ’20. Bellini’s three-set victory came against another All-Patriot League player, and Bellini’s strong year puts her in the running for a potential Patriot League Rookie of the Year award. Leavy and Koch also added points for the Bison with a doubles win, along with a win from another doubles pair Auteri and Mishi Papich ’19.

In the Lehigh match, Bellini and Koch continued to be strong solo assets for the Bison as they both won their singles matches. Bellini clinched her sixth consecutive win, while Koch’s victory improved her win streak to three matches. Although the Bison put up a good fight and won both the number one and two doubles matches, they fell short in the remainder of the singles matches.

The Lehigh match was the team’s last competition of the regular season. The Bison are in good standing for the Patriot League Tournament and are working hard to improve this next week.  Patriot League Championships will be hosted in Lewisburg from April 25-28.

“We are looking forward to hosting the Patriot League Tournament and having all our friends and family there to support us,” Papich said. “We have been preparing all year for this and are ready to bring all that we can next weekend.”
