This past weekend, the Bison volleyball team dominated the CCSU Invitational in New Britain, Conn. The Orange and Blue took on Rhode Island, Saint Peter’s and Central Connecticut State. Building on an already strong start to the season, the Bison went undefeated over the weekend to bring their overall record to 8-1.

On Sept. 13, the Orange and Blue played their first match of the weekend against Rhode Island. The Bison swept the Rams, 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-17). En route to the victory, Mimi Richards ’20, Sophie Bullard ’20 and Anna Carroll ’21 each led the team with nine kills apiece. Despite a close first set, the team was able to limit the Rhode Island attack over the next two sets.

On Sept. 14, the Bison competed in two matches at the CCSU Invitational. First, the Bison took on Saint Peter’s, defeating them 3-1 (25-17, 25-16, 23-25, 25-10). Bullard dominated with 16 kills and 23 digs. Bullard also scored her third double-double of the season. For the third time this season, Kelsey O’Loughlin ’23 collected over 40 assists throughout the match.

The Bison finished the day off with a match against host Central Connecticut State. The team clinched a weekend sweep with a five-set, 3-2 victory (25-14, 28-30, 25-16, 13-25, 15-10). Brooke Stark ’20 had a record-high 35 digs in this match, ultimately earning her MVP honors for the tournament. Bullard and Bridgette Holland ’20 each made the All-Tournament team.

“Finishing 3-0 for the second weekend in a row is really setting the stage for our upcoming PL opener games in two weeks time. We are completely focused and have one goal in mind which is making our way to the PL tournament,” Bullard said. “We are only getting better and the competition is increasing every tournament we play in.”

The Bison volleyball team will host the Bison Invitational on Sept. 20 and Sept. 21. The Orange and Blue will play against Hampton, Fairleigh Dickinson and Delaware State.
