Giving Tree fundraiser held in Bertrand Library

On Monday, Nov. 4, a special tree for the holidays was installed in the lobby of the Bertrand Library. This Giving Tree is an annual charity fund that gives back to the community by providing young children and adults with gifts for the holidays.

This year, the Giving Tree organization is creating 500 plus tags, collaborating with the Athletic, Religious and Spiritual Life departments, as well as the Barnes and Noble Bucknell Bookstore to increase their reach into the community.

University students are able to visit the tree and select a gift tag request for a local resident. These gifts are due this year by Nov. 30.

“The Giving Tree organizations works with agencies across many different areas such as animals, children, seniors and everything in between,” said Lynn Pierson, Assistant Director of Community Service.

The organization has requests each year from several local agencies including Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Children’s Choice, Union County Children and Youth Service and many others. The Giving Tree is a great way for University students to give back to the community and spread some holiday joy. Students can select a snowflake tag and volunteer from the morning and afternoon throughout the month of November.
