On Nov. 16, the Bison men’s water polo team defeated Fordham 9-6, securing the first place seed in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) and improving their overall record to 19-8 on the season. This is their fourth straight season of earning the No.1 seed in the MAWPC Tournament.

Through a strong defensive effort by the Bison, and goals by only three players on the roster, the Orange and Blue were able to hold the Rams to six goals, swimming away with the victory.

The Bison started the game off with goals from Andu Vlasceanu ’23 and Rade Joksimovic ’20 to get a 3-1 lead in the first period. The Bison stretched its lead to 5-1 after Logan Schofield ’20 added a goal of his own and Joksimovic fired in a penalty shot.

The team’s defensive effort stood out all game and kept the Rams to two goals in the first half, giving the Bison a 5-2 lead going into the third period.

The Bison kept control in the third period after goals by Schofield and Joksimovic gave the Bison their largest lead of the day, 7-2. Fordham cut the lead to 8-4 in the fourth, but a goal from Vlasceanu gave momentum back to the Orange and Blue.

Joksimovic led the way with four goals, while Vlasceanu and Schofield followed with three and two, respectively.

“Our team had a good weekend up in New York clinching the first seed for the tournament and getting a revenge win against a conference rival,” Schofield said. “It’s super important to make sure the team is coming together and playing well at the right time and I believe that win was a great way to head into the postseason. I’m excited to see what we have in store these next few weeks”.

The Bison will play La Salle in the first round of tournament play at home on Nov. 22 at 3 p.m.
