On Feb. 15, the Bison women’s lacrosse team traveled to Hempstead, N.Y. to take on Hofstra University at James M. Shuart Field. In their third game of the season, the Orange and Blue fell to the Pride 18-5, shifting their overall record to 2-1.

In the first half, the Bison found themselves trailing after the Pride sprinted to an early 11-0 lead. Kali Peeples ’21 opened the scoring for the Orange and Blue at the 15:24 mark. Going into halftime trailing 13-2, the Bison recognized the need for a spark.

Peeples contributed to the scoring in the second half with two additional goals, while  Julia Bradbury ’21 and Tegan Warren ’20 each contributed one goal, and Eve Calabria ’21 added two assists.

Lauren Kinnee ’21 started in goal and went on to make four saves. Caitlin Tucker ’22 relieved Kinnee at the 16:22 mark and collected 11 saves.

Abby Neff ’22 led the team with three ground balls.

“Hofstra was definitely the best opponent we have seen so far and having played them, we’ve learned where we have room to grow. Our team has a lot of heart and depth, and I have no doubt that we will be a force to be reckoned with,” Jessie Britton ’20 said.

Hofstra led the game in shots 43-15, shots on goal 33-12, draw controls 17-8 and ground balls 21-11.

After coming off of two monumental wins, the Bison were unable to keep up with the Hofstra Pride. However, the Bison will face the La Salle Explorers this upcoming weekend. The last time the teams met was in 2006, which resulted in a 16-10 victory for the Orange and the Blue. The Bison leads the all-time series with La Salle 3-1.

“I am really excited to continue working with the coaches in the future. I think that with them we can be really successful going forward and they are really helping us in every aspect of the game,” Peeples said.

The Bison will be back in action on Feb. 22 when they take on La Salle at Graham Field at 3 p.m.
