The Bison Men’s Water Polo team competed in the Princeton Invitational this past weekend, starting with facing CWPA rankings top 20 teams No. 15 Cal Baptist and No. 18 Harvard.
The Bison opened up against No. 15 Cal Baptist and were able to stay in the game for the first half. Neither team led by more than a goal. The Bison held onto the lead on four separate occasions. Jack Bruce ’25 scored the sixth goal for the Orange and Blue in the first half with about five and a half minutes left to play. Cal Baptist responded with two goals to close out the half, putting them up 7-6.
The Lancers put up seven more goals throughout the second half, while the Bison were only able to score two. The game ended 14-8, with two goals coming from Shay Gillearn ’25, Hasan Mogultay ’25 and Sean Michael Tunnicliff ’27 each and one each from Bruce and Ian Shultz ’26.
Later that day, the Bison faced No. 18 Harvard, who went on an early 5-0 run that the Bison were unable to recover from. Bruce, Walker Butler ’24, Aleska Stefanovic ’26 and Doruk Ozar ’24 each scored for the Bison, but ultimately the team fell 14-4 to Harvard.
Sunday morning the Bison opened against Iona. They set the tone early on in the first half with a 5-1 run in the first quarter, goals coming from Jack Murad ’26, Maxime Touzot ’26, Gillearn and Mogultay.
The Bison kept the momentum going in the second quarter, scoring three goals. Mogultay put up his third goal, and the other two goals came from Tunnicliff and Bruce.
Iona fought hard in the third quarter, both teams scoring four goals. Stefanovic scored twice and Gillearn and Mogultay added a goal apiece. To close out the final half, the Bison went on a 3-1 run. Matt Ryckman ’25, Gregory Alexander ’27 and Gillearn each scored to help the Bison grasp the 15-7 victory.
The Bison now stand 2-5 on the season, both wins over Iona. They look to improve upon their record this Saturday as they host the Bucknell Invitational.
