Men’s Tennis’ victorious weekend in NY

Over the weekend, the Bucknell Men’s Tennis team traveled to Binghamton, N.Y. to compete in the NateRentals Binghamton Championships. This was a three day tournament from Friday, Sept. 22 to Sunday, Sept. 24.

On Friday, day one, the Bison won 15 out of 16 singles matches. Additionally, seven out of the team’s eight players advanced to their respective singles flights. 

In the top flight was sophomore Amar Tahirovic ’26, who defeated both of his first day opponents in two straight-set wins. 

In the second flight, B, Adam Stavrakas ’26 posted two victories. He defeated his Le Moyne opponent 6-2, 6-0 and then beat Binghamton’s player 6-3, 6-2.

Within the Pollard, C Draw, the Bison’s own Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega ’26 reigned victorious over both sets of competition. First, he defeated Binghamton’s player 6-1, 7-5 then Colgate’s 6-3, 6-2.

Brendan McDonald ’26 kept the Bison’s winning streak going in the Toher (D) Draw. He clinched victories against Army 6-3, 6-4 and Buffalo 7-5, 6-3. Against Buffalo, he was down 0-3 in the second set then came back winning six straight games. 

In the Noble (E) Draw, Liam Kilmer ’27 cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Army and followed with another win against Le Moyne 6-4, 6-4. 

Senior Tim Zelikovsky posted two straight-set wins in the Sussman (F) Draw over Niagara 6-4, 6-3 and Siena 6-1, 6-2. 

Unfortunately in the Nath (G) Draw, Bison Ethan Esclamado ’27 dropped his opening match to Binghamton but came back to defeat Army in the consolation round. 

Closing out the first day of play, Will Robinson ’27 won twice in the Shutter (H) Draw as he raced past his first opponent 6-2, 6-3, followed by another straight-set win 6-3, 7-5. 

Advancing to the next round on Saturday was Tahirovic, Stavrakas, Bain, McDonald, Kilmer, Zelikovsky and Robinson. 

On Saturday, out of the seven Bison who advanced, three won their flight championships, claiming titles and remaining unbeaten on the season. 

Tahirovic won the Lane (A) Draw – top flight – with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Niagara. Following Tahirovic’s lead, Kilmer defeated Buffalo’s player in the Noble (E) Draw and Zelikovsky clinched a victory against Army in the Sussman (F) Draw. 

From this weekend, Tahirovic, Kilmer and Zelikovsky all improved to 8-0 in singles this fall.

Additionally, on Saturday, the double play began. Tahirovic and McDonald earned a 2-0 day. Continuing onto Sunday, the tandem clinched a third win beating a Binghamton pair 6-1.

In a few weeks, the Orange and Blue will be traveling down to Lynchburg, Va. to compete in the ITA Regionals from Oct. 11 to Oct. 16.
