Bison Women’s Tennis celebrated a grand victory over Marist College this past Friday, Feb. 14. This marks the first win for the Orange and Blue this spring season after a couple of weeks of losses. The squad dominated over the Red Foxes, 4-2, ending their opponents’ back-to-back win streak.
The Friday match started at 7 p.m. at Hopewell Junction, N.Y. with the battle for the doubles point. Pair Tori Allen ’27 and Cameron King ’28 played a close matchup against their opponents but ultimately lost 3-6. Power duo Whitney King ’25 and Abby Platt ’26 were dominating their doubles match 5-3 but unfortunately left it unfinished after Anna Lajos ’25 and Natalie Devraj ’28 fell to the Red Foxes 6-1.
While the Bison dropped the doubles point to Marist, they came back strong in the singles matches with four straight singles wins. W. King continued her groove with a three-set win, 6-4, 5-7, 10-5. Platt followed with a similar victory, 6-1, 4-6, 10-8. While Lajos fell to her opponent, Allen defeated hers in two sets, 6-4, 6-1. Jaycie Mair ’27 clinched the final singles point needed to win the team match. She finished her match strong, going 6-2, 6-2 against Marist. C. King was also dominating her match 6-3, 3-2 until it was left unfinished after the Bison claimed their victory.
The Orange and Blue will be back on Saturday, Feb. 22 to take on Slippery Rock and Mercyhurst on Sunday, Feb. 23 in Western Pennsylvania.
