Saturday was a big day for Men’s Lacrosse, as Connor Davis ʼ25 officially tied the Bucknell career goals record and the team managed a close win of 11-10 against Lehigh. Not only did Davis play an incredible game, but the defense also deserves recognition for their hard work and help in securing the win for the Orange and Blue. Right now, the Bison have an overall record of 4-4 and a Patriot League record of 2-2 after their second consecutive one-goal win.
Although the Orange and Blue started off slow, trailing Lehigh 5-2 early on in the second quarter, they gained much needed momentum to dominate most of the second quarter and throughout the third quarter. The Bison managed an 8-1 scoring run, which helped them secure a four-goal lead over Lehigh, staying ahead even after Lehigh scored three goals in the fourth quarter.
Once again, the goals scored were spread among many members of the team, including Owen Kovacs ʼ26, Cam Doolan ʼ25, Anthony Panetti ʼ28 and Sean Kerwick ʼ28, who each scored two goals, and Michael Meyer ’26 and Davis who both scored one.
Kovacs led the surge of goals that would ultimately help secure the win for the Bison with two behind-the-back shots. Then, Doolan positioned the score at 5-5 after scoring one of his two goals midway through the period. Finally, an assist from Meyer to Kovacs gave the Orange and Blue their first lead of the day, 6-5.
Although the half ended in a 6-6 tie, the Bison came back strong and scored four consecutive goals to kick off the second half. Then, it was just 3:12 into the third quarter when Davis made history with his 138th career goal and gave the lead back to the Bison which they would hold for the rest of the game. Davis is now officially tied with the record of Justin Zackey ʼ94, which hasn’t been beaten since it was first set in 1994.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the Orange and Blue were well positioned with a goal from Panetti, a goal from Luke Brunner ʼ27 48 seconds later, a goal from Meyer and, finally, a second goal from Panetti with just five seconds left in the quarter to make the score 11-7.
With just a few minutes of the game remaining, Lehigh had a man-up advantage for 30 seconds. Although the Mountain Hawks had three attempted shots on goal and one attempted drive toward the crease, the Bison defense stayed strong and managed to keep their one-point lead.
The Bison were outshot by the Mountain Hawks 45-36 and lost in faceoff possessions 19-6. However, the Orange and Blue forced Lehigh into 19 turnovers. Goalie Luke Renaud ʼ26 also had a good game, playing the entire 60 minutes and managing 13 saves, five of which came in the final period. The Orange and Blue are now tied with Lafayette for fifth place in the Patriot League. Check out the Bison and Leopards as they face off this Friday night in Easton.
