Women’s Tennis concluded another weekend of play as they played in Loretto, Pa., against St. Francis on Saturday, March 22. The Bison then turned around to play at home against Navy on Sunday, March 23. Their match against Navy is their first Patriot League play for the spring season. The team lost both matches, finishing the weekend 2-4 and 1-6, respectively.
Saturday’s matchup against St. Francis started with the doubles matches. Caroline Marcus ʼ25 and Riley Jennings ʼ28 kicked off by winning their match 7-6. Whitney King ʼ25 and Abby Platt ʼ26 lost their match 4-6, and Anna Lajos ʼ25 and Jaycie Mair ʼ27 finished in a similar defeat, going 3-6. These two losses caused the point to go to St. Francis, giving the Bison a 0-1 start.
Tori Allen ʼ27 won her singles match in two sets, 6-4, 6-3. Lajos followed suit by winning 7-5, 6-4. Despite the two points these victories earned, the Bison struggled with the rest of singles play. King lost her match 6-7, 3-6. While Platt took a set, she ultimately lost in three, finishing 1-6, 7-6, 3-6. Mair lost to her St. Francis opponent, causing the Bison to lose two more points. The final score was 2-4.
The Bison’s matchup with Navy at home told a similar story. While King and Platt regained their doubles momentum and won their match 6-4, Lajos and Mair and Marcus and Jennings both lost their matches 3-6.
King lost her singles match in two sets, 2-6, 1-6. Mair faced a similar fate, finishing 2-6, 4-6. While Platt and Allen managed to each take a set against their Navy opponents, both ultimately lost in three sets, going 6-2, 3-6, 4-6 and 5-7, 6-4, 7-10, respectively. Jennings managed to win her match in two sets, however, finishing 6-1, 6-1. These losses gave the Midshipmen five points, leading them to beat the Bison 6-1.
The Orange and Blue are staying home this weekend to compete against Loyola, another Patriot League matchup, on Saturday, and St. Joseph’s on Sunday.
