Women’s Softball picked back up in Patriot League play last weekend at home. They faced Army in three games, two on Saturday and one on Sunday.
The Bison dropped the first two games to the Black Knights. Both games ended 0-4 in favor of Army on Saturday. The Bison struggled offensively Sunday and were unable to put many points up on the scoreboard during the third and final of the weekend’s series.
First up on the mound Sunday afternoon was Savannah Jones ʼ25. After two scoreless innings, Army was able to bring in two runs in the third inning. The first run started from a single. The runner was then advanced to third after a bunt, then grounder. The next batter singled, bringing in the run. After Army’s second run, Sarah Zimmerman ʼ27 took over pitching.
Despite going scoreless in their first two games, the Orange and Blue managed to score in the fourth inning. Brooke Popella ʼ27 got it started with a hit out to center field to place her on second. MaKenzie Hilling ʼ25 managed to advance Popella to third. First-year Shea Malone’s RBI single brought in the run and put the Bison up on the scoreboard.
Zimmerman opened the fourth inning with a strikeout. Reagan Powell ʼ28 was able to round up a bunt before Army could get on base. The Black Knights put more runs on the board in the following inning. Zimmerman let up a home run and double before being subbed for Madison Roukey ʼ25. After the pitching change, Army scored three more runs.
Roukey managed to prevent the game from ending early in the sixth by grabbing a grounder. In their final at-bat, the Bison filled up the bases after two Army errors. However, they were unable to convert any runs, and the game ended 8-1.
The Bison will continue Patriot League play this weekend against Lehigh.
