Last Friday, March 28, the Bison faced the Leopards at Lafayette; unfortunately for the Orange and Blue, the Leopards won. The final score of 14-5 came as a disappointment to the Bison after two previous wins. Their record now stands at 4-5, 2-3 in the Patriot League.
Only 5:32 into the game, the Leopards showed lots of strength and endurance with their first three goals. By the end of the first quarter, the score stood at 10-0. The Leopards managed one more goal at the start of the second half before Will Hopkins ’26 finally managed a goal for the Bison, bringing the score to 11-1 at the 8:42 mark.
After Hopkins’ point, play slowed down as backup goalie Parker Day ’28 had some important saves, and the Orange and Blue defense continued to fight for any possibility of a win. The Bison were able to hold the Leopards scoreless for over 15 minutes. Then, with only 11 minutes left of play, Hopkins scored once more and Sean Berrigan ’27 added another tallying the score to 11-4. But, this marked the end of the Bison’s goals for the game and a continued momentum from Lafayette that marked the ultimate score of the game as 14-5.
Day managed eight total saves for the Bison and allowed seven goals in after replacing starting goalie Luke Renaud ’26 for the remainder of the game. The Leopards goalie managed 13 total saves for Lafayette.
In terms of milestones, Michael Meyer ’26 had two assists in the game to reach the 100-point mark in his Bucknell career, with 50 points for assists and 50 points for goals scored. Unfortunately for Connor Davis ’25, he was unable to score a goal in the game against Lafayette (for only the fourth time in his career) and is therefore still tied with Justin Zackey ’94 for Bucknell’s career goals record.
Lafayette finished with a 39-32 shot advantage as well as a 30-26 ground ball advantage. However, of the 23 face-offs of the game, the Bison won 13 of them.
Catch the Bison at home for their next game on Saturday, April 5, against Loyola.
