This past Saturday, the Bison faced a close loss to Loyola at the Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. However, the team still had something to celebrate after Connor Davis ʼ25 achieved Bucknell’s all-time goals record.
Davis finished the game with three goals and two assists. After his record-breaking 139th career goal at the 2:27 mark of the first quarter, Davis ended the game with 141 career goals and counting.
The game got off to a slow start for the Orange and Blue as they fell behind Loyola 5-2. It wasn’t until the second quarter that the Bison really hit their stride, scoring six goals. In the span of one minute and 39 seconds, Will Hopkins ʼ26 managed an assist and two consecutive goals, bringing the score to 5-5. Entering halftime, after a goal by Davis and a goal each from Peter Grandolfo ʼ27 and Sean Berrigan ʼ27, the Orange and Blue had the lead 8-6.
The third quarter proved to be mildly eventful with one goal scored by both teams. It wasn’t until the final quarter that the energy picked up. Loyola pulled within one goal of the Bison before Davis and Michael Meyer ʼ26 scored necessary goals to put the Orange and Blue back in the lead. Then, with just three minutes to go, Loyola was able to tie the game, sending it into overtime.
Both goalies played a notable game, each racking up 17 saves. Luke Renaud ʼ26 made two particularly important saves to keep the game at 11-11 before stepping up for one more save that moved the game into overtime. After one of Loyola’s defenders threw a ground ball toward the sideline, Renaud left the crease and attempted to snag the pass, but Loyola’s player beat him to it. In the end, Cook attempted a shot on goal that Renaud ultimately saved just before the horn sounded.
Both teams entered into overtime with energy. The game ended when Grandolfo’s 12-yard shot attempt on goal was saved by the Loyola goalie and set up the game-winning shot for Loyola.
The Bison led in shots on goal 45-39, ground balls 45-26 and faceoffs 15-12. The Orange and Blue’s record now sits at 4-6, 2-4 PL.
The team will travel to Farmingdale, N.Y. on Saturday, April 12 to take on Bryant at 12:00 p.m.
